Finally some real Snowboarding....

Well, despite only having enough shots to count on one hand this winter (I was on a personal hiatus from shooting handrails), I feel almost renewed again thanks to one rider who actually rides mountains instead of cheeswedges. No glory video parts because Big Mountain riding isn’t sellable anymore, no neon or hype. Jonaven Moore called up the other day and got me stoked. A few years ago he pointed out a massive chute on the north face of Mt.Joffre in the Duffy Lake area that he wanted to shred. Yesterday was the day. Jonaven and a couple buddies left early - 4 hours in front of me to get up there. I arrived to the parking lot, geared up and hiked in for a few hours to a spot with a straight view of this chute. ( It could have been about an hour less, but I took a wrong turn and ended up waaayyy past where I should have been....
Anyway... for scale... here is the bottom of the outlet. If you look close you’ll see Mr.Moore.

or if you are blind.. here is a zoom crop...

The chute is 50-55 degrees and about 1700 vert from what I’ve been told. Ice Axe mandatory climb... So its about 8 or 9 hours after they started and I get a call from him around 3:30pm saying its time to roll. Its dark... and I knew I’d have little light anyways, but I had to watch it go down. Its BIG....

Anyway. he rode it and aired off the cliff band in the lower right of that last shot look hard again, you can see him setting up on the top...and snapped the nose off his splitboard. Then had to ride out off the peak down a glacier field switch.. then down through a solid ice luge track to the road the same way in the dark... FUN times!
I wish more people likes to Snowboard down Mountains..
By the Way.. Jonavens’ long time board sponsor who I will not mention, let him go. Apparently he needs to ride handrails and have a 3 letter name to be cool these days.
